About Us

Most people in the Jewish community are aware that Ashkenazi women have a predisposition to breast cancer. There are hundreds of women in the community who have been touched by breast cancer in their lives. Unfortunately, many more will be affected until a cure can be found.

There are, in existence, many breast cancer support groups. With our unique culture and traditions, a support group for Jewish women is considered to be beneficial to meet the needs of our community.

We aim to provide emotional support to all Jewish women with any stage of cancer, in a comfortable, safe and confidential environment.

Professionals and guest speakers will provide valuable information sessions within the field of breast cancer and women's health in general.

Workshops such as yoga and meditation will be offered to help enhance women's well being.

As partners and family members are also affected by cancer, the group will organise separate partner meetings and family outings to celebrate the various Chagim (holidays) during the year.

The founding members are five women affected by breast cancer in their own ways. These members are:

                        Anne Bransby

Marsha Erlich - Breast Cancer Survivor

Kelly Hall - Breast Cancer Survivor

                        Esther Paneth - Anne's Sister

                        Diane Shonberg - Marsha's Sister

The Jewish Breast Cancer Support Group will provide:

    • Regular meetings for discussion and sharing of experiences
    • A means of increasing your skills in coping with cancer
    • Access to up-to-date information on breast & other cancers
    • Social outings and friendships

The group encourages respect for individuals and provides opportunities for mutual support and understanding.
